How Many Dogs Has CK Animal Rescue Placed In Adoptive Homes?

Since October of 2010, Chatham Kent Animal Rescue has placed well over 1500 dogs in permanent homes.

Does CK Animal Rescue Work With Cats As Well?

Yes, we do take cats and kittens pending available foster space. We also partner with local cat rescues to help them as well.

How Many Foster Homes Do You Have and Where Are They Located?

From Windsor to Sarnia to Chatham Kent, and surrounding areas – we have approximately 130 foster homes. Some for specific breeds, some for short-term, some long-term, some seasonal, and some for Purple Leash Program.

Where do the dogs come from?

Many dogs who enter our foster program are local owner surrenders, from hoarding situations in Ontario, high kill shelters in Ontario and Quebec and dogs from southern states who were abandoned and found in shelters.  Our southern rescue friends beg for help to save dogs in their area who are thrown away, sold at flea markets, left to fend for themselves on the side of the roads or bush areas, trying to survive in hoarding situations that are deplorable and high kill shelters where dogs can be euthanized the day they are surrendered.  The numbers of dogs who have been thrown away and abandoned or living in horrendous situations are in the thousands.  Our volunteers believe every dog deserves a chance regardless of where they come from.

What Is Purple Leash?

The Purple Leash Initiative provides temporary housing for the pets of persons fleeing domestic abuse situations. We also provide temporary care for people who are hospitalized and need a helping hand to care for their pets at home.

Through the Purple Leash we are able to help women make an earlier escape from a domestic violent situation.

What Other Services Does CK Animal Rescue Currently Offer?

Where Does CK Animal Rescue Get Their Money?

How Are Adoption Fees Spent?

Virtually all of a dog’s adoption fees have been spent on veterinary needs including vaccines, spay/neuter, deworming, heartworm testing, flea and tick prevention and microchipping by the time the dog is adopted. The same applies for cats and kittens being adopted.  Additional vetting costs include medications, tests, xrays, dentals and other surgeries as needed.

Office supplies, rent and additional vetting some dogs may need that is not covered by their own adoption fee.
